Wells Bladen watch casings are the cumulative result of logic, freehand artistry and engineering precision, brought together by a passion to steer away from the mass-produced product of industrial machinery.
The idea of creating a custom made wristwatch is to not limit the wearer.
Wells Bladen watch casings are an invitation to the individual to have a timepiece made ideally suited to their own wrist. I can go as far as to take an impression of the client's lower arm and hand and reproduce it in any material we choose, even bronze, and then use that as the base from which to work. Other than that, I have some standard templates from which I have created my first range.
We must then choose a housing in which the actual movements and glass will rest, and surrounding that, the further design of the actual watch casing. It may entail anything organic ranging to very structural or industrial, size being no object.
My own designs I refer to as having off-centered balance ie when split vertically down the middle, the watch casing will deliver equal amounts of metal left and right, by taking away here and adding there - the simple principle of balance.
Note your own subconscious reactions towards a wristwatch. A flick of the wrist here to pick this up, a shift to do that... endless and very subtle movements. You want balance.
These two prototypes were the product of careful thought and execution over nine months comprising many drawings and input from engineers and other experts.
