Protea cynaroides Chandelier

Nic created the Protea cynaroides as a commission for a private residence, in 2013. Workshopping the idea with the client for a sculptural piece to fit a high, narrow, vaulted reception area, Nic's interpretation of the Cape's iconic King Protea seems to grow from the ceiling and extends down, leaves emanating in spiralling arcs, to the crown, 6,5 meters below. A smaller version of the Protea Chandelier, measuring just 1.8 meters in length, was made a few years later, and has been exhibited with Southern Guild at Design Miami as well as Basel.
